Burlap Covered Lamp Shades With Scrap Flowers

I have been picking up some basic lampshades and in the garage they have sat....

I had a bit of motivation and some burlap!

I love covering lamp shades, because you can get so creative and pretty much anything goes.

The first time I ever attempted covering a shade I used a pattern, just an fyi that it not the easiest first attempt, lol!

A fun solid pattern like the above are a piece of cake.

Just lay the fabric on the floor and wrap it around the shade to ensure you have enough.

Then grab some spray adhesive (make sure you do a light even coat) and slowly smooth your fabric over the shade.

I use a sharp hobby (razor) knife to trim the edges and lightly hot glue them under the inside rim.

Then decorate to your hearts desire!

I love making scrap flowers, usually I make these when I am watching the kiddos during bath time!  It's all about multi-tasking when your a Mom, right?

Easy, fun project!  Try it out!

This Old Schoolhouse, My Dream Home

Yep, I am still alive!

Thankfully!

I have been on a whirlwind lately, barely keeping my head above water.

I have been developing a new program for work, and we are just to the launching stage.

Not sure if that means I will finally slow down, or I am about to get much busier!  Yikes!

I had to take a bit and tell you this funny little story.

Our Central Office for work is in a really small town in Oregon.

A couple of year ago, my boss showed me how to drive going the back roads.

This then takes you through some even smaller towns...

Well if you are like me and you drool over cool old houses, you would love this drive.

I have always had my favorite on this drive.

For the past couple of years the grass has been growing tall, and the windows are all boarded up.

Well, I had a couple of minutes on my drive so I stopped to take some pics. (You know I had to show you)

I wasn't about to get out of the car, so they aren't great!

Yes here is my dream!

It is an amazing old schoolhouse!

I then went to snap a picture of the house...it is pretty amazing as well.

Everything was going great until I went to take one more picture...I was lining up my phone to snap away;

a truck pulls right in front of me, and a old man says "Can I help you?"

Yikes!  Well um I really love old buildings...and I really love that old schoolhouse?

His diesel truck was a rumbling...and he said something back to me.

Sorry I didn't catch that?  He said "What about me?"

LOL, I kind of breathed a sigh of relief...he wasn't super angry at me!

Anyhow, to make a long story short

He said that he just purchased the property and is just started the remodel process on the house!

Want to know what is even better....?

Anytime I want to stop by, he will give me a full tour!

I so cannot wait

Oh yeah, and I assured him I was happily married :)

I have been telling my husband...maybe he doesn't want the schoolhouse....maybe we can buy some property and have it moved here?

He thinks I am nuts!

Have a blessed day!

Mad Hatter Alice In Wonderland Bridal Shower Tea

Well another weekend in the books!  Another weekend of non-stop everything!  While it's a busy time right now, I had the best time at an adorable bridal shower today that I had to share with you all!  My amazing nephew is getting married to the cutest little lady.  They are just adorable together and it is so fun to see them so happy together.  So off we went to Megan's aunt's house for a day of fun!  I was super impressed with all the details for this cute "Alice In Wonderland Bridal Shower Tea"
Megan is a fan of Alice in Wonderland, so her sweet Aunt went all out for a fun tea.  Above was my place setting, each table was utterly unique.
Every table also had a one of a kind teapot, and some delicious treats. (Yes, that is my Mother eating in the background...she will kill me later)
I loved this cute yellow cake stand!
This was just one glance at the food table.  I loved the idea of everything in their own little dishes!  Above are fun dishes of fruit salad, cappuccino Kahlua cups, and mac and cheese.
Isn't my plate so pretty!  Yeah and don't even say it (I know) it is full, lol!
I could have stayed and had dessert all night, yummers!
My favorite cherry cheesecake!
Yes, I am full ...but these pictures are making me want more!

Little mini loaf bread.
What a happy beautiful party for such a pretty girl.  Didn't her aunt do an amazing job?  Makes me want to throw a fun little party and do the same theme (or I could come back for another party...hint.hint)

Shabby Inspirational Projects

We have hit some "Dog Days of Summer" around here...starting to make me a bit nervous, school is about ready to start and I am not organized and prepared for the structure of school yet!! Yikes!  I have two weeks to get on it, but we started cheer and football that are EVERYDAY, did I mention every...day!  I also just finished back to back birthdays at my house, I know have a double digit kiddo!  Crazy it is going way to fast!

We have been doing some playing at the county fair!
My son playing, while I held all the goodies.
Here is my sis and my adorable little niece on a ride.  Look at those eyes!
My daughter, niece, and I being silly.

I haven't worked on a ton of projects but I have seen some pretty amazing inspiration that I wanted to share.
I fell in love with this old door knob coat hook!  Super cute!

This was adorable as well with the rusty hooks.

Um yes please, I need this for my daughters room...yeah I didn't bring any money, maybe it will be there when I go back...but I doubt it!
What a cute idea, coat hooks on scrap wood

Shabby at it's best!

So have you been working on projects in the heat, or just lounging?
We did make a great thrift store run the other day!  We haven't been out on the hunt in awhile so we went a bit crazy!
So um yes, I need to get busy!

Well I better leave you with a big kiss to seal the deal!!

Hope you are all staying cool!

Subway Art DIY

I finally finished my DIY Subway Art!  Literally this has taken me months!  Not because it was super difficult, I just couldn't get that motivation.  So yesterday afternoon I was supposed to be doing book work for my hubs business....but guess what?  Motivation struck instead, lol!

I was so motivated when I saw this tutorial from From Gardners 2 Bergers.  Becca did a great job on her instructions...but I still couldn't figure it out!  I played around with my Word program but I really didn't have any luck.  I had to talk myself into this "I am a smart girl, right?"  add that with the fact that I really, really wanted some of this art in my house!  So I started looking at photo editing sites.  I finally settled on iPiccy.com

Once you are on the site you have the option to create a new blend.  Then you just choose fonts and sizes and go to town.  I created the whole piece....it took me awhile.  I ended up choosing fun words from our home town.  Then I save the image on a U-drive.

Then I hit another road block.  Becca finally found a Staples that did an engineers print.  Well I don't have a Staples by me.  I called the Office supply store closest and they had no idea...great!  We do have Office Max and Office Depot, I so cannot remember which one ended up having this BUT THEY DO!!!

I didn't have the best little gal in copies at the store; really I got all of her life stories and different stories of her having to deal with customers when she is really hungry because it is almost lunch time! (For real) (I am not kidding)  They didn't know what an engineers copy was but I just explained that there was a black and white copy that I can get really big for really cheap, lol!  Luckily she finally figured it out!

After about an hour and a half, and yes I came home with 2 because she couldn't get it to print the full 30x40.  She said I will have to come back and someone that knew a little more would have to help me....let's face it, I was spent!  Mine ended up being 24x24.

I was super excited but then these prints sat and sat at my house!

Yesterday, I pulled out the jigsaw and trimmed a piece of thin plywood for my backing.
Then I applied Modge Podge all over the board to adhere the poster.
Next I lined up the poster to the board and used the handy dandy Home Depot Gift Card to run over the top and get the bubbles out.  Don't panic!  There is only a couple of dollars on the gift card, lol!
I wanted my piece really distressed so if you don't you will have to be really careful rubbing on the top.  The black comes off really easy!

Next I flipped it over to attach the edges.
I stapled the back side down and on the corners, I folded these similar to when you do a corner on upholstery.
Next I distressed the entire piece, I really wanted it to look old.  I took some really fine steel wool and ran it over the entire print.  For the hanger my husband help me screw in some knoted jute twine.  I liked this look, kind of industrial.

This should be sealed with a spray sealer for paper; yeah I haven't done that yet!  I don't think anyone will touch it up on the wall, but the black does rub off when you do.
You can see this as you walk in my front door; makes me smile every time!  Love it!

So what do you think of Subway Art?  Do you love it or hate it?
