Shabby Side Table Re-do

Ooo I am so excited, my first post on Blogger! I just started my blog at the end of November...after reading up a bit I thought WordPress would be the way to go. Well there was a problem; since I have no clue what I am doing, and all my friends with blogs are on Blogger they couldn't help me, lol! So my dear friend stayed up many late nights and has been switching it over for me! We have many more changes to come (blog header, etc) but hopefully you will follow along in my randomness!

I have been a super Mom/Wife this weekend. I woke up early and cleaned the whole house, had the kids clean their rooms. Oh funny side note on that, so my son (9) asked my daughter (5) to switch cleaning rooms, he would clean hers, she clean his. Then he told her she would have to pay him! Since he didn't have any money he told her if she paid him $2, he would pay her $1! What a little schemer! Anyhow, she fell for it and paid up, lol! Then we drove to the local True Value store and got a bunch of paint goodies. At home I primed and painted three pieces of furniture. Made homemade cookies with the kiddos (actually homemade, not from the freezer...haven't done that in awhile). Waxed and sealed a piece of furniture, then made dinner. We all snuggled in my bed to watch a movie and that friends is the last thing I remember...I was beat, lol!

Well I wanted to show you the little gem I worked on. Here it was before:

I was really drawn to the detailing on the fronts and sides. I am looking for pieces to re-do my entire master bedroom and this is my first piece! So my idea was to go with all white furniture, I could totally see this white and all glazed up! Well after talking with the hubby, he wasn't feeling the white. He really gives me free reign on the house but I want him to love our bedroom as well. So I asked suggested black and he was all over that! I took my new handy sander and 100 grit paper and went to town. Then came the primer! If I could give one tip on furniture, prime! Not only prime but make sure you use a quality primer; I use Kilz and it is the best. I have primed, not primed, primed with less expensive, etc. This stuff really works and makes a difference.

After priming, I used a Rustoleum Satin Black. I just had to do one coat, then a couple of touch ups after.

Then I took some 220 grit sandpaper and ran it over all the sides. I didn't do the top, hubs doesn't want it too shabby. I love how this turned out! Hopefully everything will be an easy transformation for this bedroom!

Have a great day! Oh my..did I forget to mention? It is SNOWING here! We don't get it often! Whoot! Whoot!
